Zinabu Sumaila from Ninkogo, a community in Pusiga District in the Upper East Region is a widow, who found life unbearable after the death of her husband. She and her children had to rely on the benevolence of the community chief and other community members for survival.
After being enrolled on the LEAP Programme, Zinabu has been able to save part of her grant and invested it in pig farming. According to her, she is now able to take good care of her children, send them to school and take of their health needs. She sells the pigs to augment the LEAP grant that is given to her. In her words ‘ I thank the government for giving me this opportunity’.
